Saw someone recently put in their description something like “you’re not allowed to take inspiration from these designs” and I couldn’t help but laugh a little. Like, I‘m sorry, I think you’ve mistaken the amount of control you have here! That’s just not a reasonable thing to ask, I’m sorry! I somewhat understand what you’re trying to say, but that doesn’t change the fact that you don’t get to decide what people take away from your work, including inspiration! It‘s a symptom of deep insecurity to be obsessively worried with your art getting ‘stolen’ so much that you’re thinking of inspiration itself as some kind of devious form of theft. I’m sorry, but if they aren’t literally stealing your art or reselling the exact same designs, you really can’t argue they stole from you! Get over yourself! and honestly putting it on a work that’s literally itself fanart is just… the definition of hypocritical, IMO. Hope you asked the creators before you drew it, lmao!
Someone: You should move to instagram/twitter, there’s more people there and your art could get more engagement! Me: You see, there’s just one problem with that. It involves actually joining instagram/twitter. And I’d rather gnaw off my own leg than do that.
I'm going to say this politely:
I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS SHIT
...
Ok, ok, um, let me try again, more sincerely this time. I am really, really, really getting tired of being treated like an art monkey. I am not an art slave. Why do I have to say this? What do I mean? I mean that, if you ask me to draw something, I am in no way obligated to do it. I don't have to obey orders like I'm here for your amusement, ok? If I draw something, I wanted to draw it. It doesn't matter if I draw something as a gift or not, I did it because I wanted to, and not because I was obligated to, short of a commission/art trade. Which, again, is something I chos
